Why we launched the campaign

The #BastaVaschette campaign was created to raise public awareness, inviting consumers to introduce conscious purchasing habits, towards a real circular economy.
The goal is to reduce the use of disposable plastic packaging, often not recyclable, that are not only harmful for the environment but can also contaminate food and release substances dangerous for human health.
The initiative is in line with the European Commission’s proposal for a regulation – which aims to limit the use of disposable plastic packaging, promoting its reuse and recycling –  and with the entry into force of the environmental labelling on 1 January 2023, which imposes to inform consumers about the final destination of packaging and the materials of which it is composed.

Each one of us

can make the difference

Why we should remove disposable plastic trays?

They suffocate the environment and the sea

They are not all recyclable

They can contaminate food by releasing harmful substances

They are produced in huge quantities and are more affordable for the large retail sector

They are wrongly perceived as “safer” by consumers

180

Every year, a European citizen generates almost 180 kg of packaging waste, around half a kilo per day.

Packaging is currently one of the main products which is made of virgin materials. 40% of plastic and 50% of paper used throughout the EU are exclusively used for the production of packaging. Time is over: if we do not take action soon, by 2030 the EU would will see a further 19% increase in packaging waste and, in particular, 46% in waste from plastic packaging. The reduction must start from our choices: every European citizen generates almost 180 kg of packaging waste per year, about half a kilo per day, and if we choose to buy unpackaged products, we would reduce the use of plastic for this product category by 80%.
